2015 Scholarship Winners

The Monte Vista Athletic Boosters (“MVAB”) Scholarship-Award is a new program established this year to recognize and reward Monte Vista High School student-athletes who demonstrate excellence through athletic participation, academic achievement, and service to Monte Vista High School.  Six $1,000 scholarships were awarded to 3 girls and 3 boys during the Senior Awards Rally held at the school on May 29, 2015.  The recipients are listed below.

Jenelle Doolittle

Jenelle was 4-year member of the Mountain Biking team (serving as captain for 3 years) and also competed on JV Cross Country for 2 years.  In addition to her many academic accomplishments (4.20 weighted GPA; NHS) she was active in drama and has been heavily involved in numerous service organizations, including the GSA, Team Green and Girl Scouts.  Jenelle plans to attend Northwestern University next year.

Mckenna Miller

McKenna was a 4-year varsity swimmer for MVHS, as well as 4-year water polo player (3 on varsity, Captain her senior year). While balancing the rigors of being a 2-sport athlete, McKenna tackled a highly-challenging course load yet achieved a weighted GPA of 4.26.  Next Fall McKenna will attend Brown University where she will also play on the water polo team.

Kelly Strand

Kelly was a 3-sport athlete during her MV career (4 years Volleyball, 3 years Track, 1 year basketball).  Among her many athletic achievements, Kelly is the school record-holder in the 300m hurdles, and she helped lead MV’s girls volleyball team to the NCS championship her senior year.  In addition to focusing on her academics (3.79 weighted GPA) Kelly was involved in speech & debate, as well as helping serve the community through her involvement with Special Olympics and Autism Speaks.  Kelly will be attending UC San Diego next Fall.

Eric Dobberpuhl

A 3-sport varsity athlete in Football, Basketball and Baseball (earning 6 varsity letters), Eric was a member of MV’s State Champion basketball team in 2014.  While balancing his numerous athletic responsibilities, Eric challenged himself with a rigorous academic course load while maintaining a 3.81 weighted GPA.  Eric was also involved in Mustangs in Motion service organization at MVHS, was a volunteer youth football coach, and volunteer at Glide Memorial Church.  Eric plans to attend Chapman University in the Fall.

Michael Ricupito

During his 3 years at MVHS, Mike played Baseball (earning 2 varsity letters) and also participated in JV football his sophomore year.  Off the field, Mike served the MV community as a middle school math & science tutor and “new student” ambassador for incoming MVHS students.  He achieved a 4.00 weighted GPA and is the recipient of multiple academic awards, including an “Excellence in English” his junior year, and is a recipient of the CIF scholar-athlete award all 4 years of high school.  He recently was selected to the all EBAL 1st team for baseball. Mike will be attending University of the Pacific and play baseball while studying for a career in dentistry.

Jackson Wightman

Jackson competed all 4 years in Cross Country (earning multiple varsity letters and team captain his senior year) and was also a 3-year member of the track team.  While achieving a 4.14 weighted GPA, Jackson was actively involved in the community in many ways, including as an Eagle Scout and as a volunteer at the Blackhawk Museum.  Jackson will be attending Brigham Young University in the Fall where he plans to study engineering.
